Paulshof resident stands to win R1.2 million for best local social innovation
PAULSHOF - Paulshof resident, Rudzani Mulaudzi is one of the finalists of the 14 SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards 2015.
The awards were established in 2010 as a means of supporting the growth and development of entrepreneurship in South Africa, with a specific focus on servicing the needs of women who earn low incomes, the youth, people with disabilities and people living in rural areas.
Mulaudzi is one of the innovators of Gradesmatch, an innovative system designed to match pupils’ high school results with that of any tertiary institution’s entrance requirement. It breaks down pupils’ subject results and shows them how to improve, or provides alternative paths to follow which will be best suited to their strengths.
“I came up with the idea because I noticed the yearly tertiary issues pupils go through to get enrolled into a tertiary institution, and with Gradesmatch application it will help pupils to meet their particular goals,” Mulaudzi said.
SAB Foundation manager, Bridgit Evans said the finalists were selected from 125 entries this year.
“We are seeing some incredibly talented young South Africans produce socially informed, and transformative products and services that are truly going to help make a change in the lives of those who need it the most,” Evans said.
The winners will be announced on 15 October and the first placed winner stands to win R1.2 million. Second and third place will receive R600 000 and R400 000 respectively.
Several grants of between R100 000 and R150 000 will also be awarded to other deserving finalists.
