Resident wants to fill potholes at own cost

MORNINGSIDE – A concerned resident has decided to take matters into her own hands after the Johannesburg Roads Agency failed to repair a portion of a road in Morningside which is badly potholed.

The resident, Amanda Murray, has been reporting the potholes along Sanda Lane and West Road in Morningside since July this year and she has now requested permission from the roads agency to repair the damaged road surface herself by buying her own tar and filling in the potholes.

On 1 September, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency, apologised for the delay in repairing the road surface along Sanda Lane and West Road. However, the roads agency has still not repaired the damaged road surface.

“Unfortunately, due to the widely reported countrywide shortage of bitumen, the road agency’s plant could not supply asphalt,” she explained.

However, Peters-Scheepers said the matter would be attended to as soon as possible.
