No solution to potholes after water leak

MORNINGSIDE – Potholes on two roads remain after a water leak was finally fixed in Morningside.

Resident, Amanda Murray, has been reporting the potholes along Sanda Lane and West Road in Morningside since July this year.

“I have been asking the Johannesburg Roads Agency to attend to the huge potholes all over our cul de sac,” said Murray.

The potholes resulted from a water leak which was eventually fixed by Joburg Water in June.

She said roads agency officials have done nothing to attend to the problem, despite being asked repeatedly to do so. “I would be really grateful if they would come and fill the potholes with tar so that we can finally move on from all this,” added Murray.

Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp said this was the result of poor service. “I reported this issue months ago to the roads agency’s maintenance depot regarding the underground water and the damage to the road surface, and called for them to investigate and to repair the potholes,” he said.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the agency, said the roads agency apologised for the delay in repairing the damaged road surface. “Unfortunately, due to the widely reported countrywide shortage of bitumen, the road agency’s plant could not supply asphalt,” she explained.

“The entity is currently working to minimise the resultant backlog in road repairs and will attended to the matter shortly.”
