JOHANNESBURG – With spring now in the air, there are a number of things to get up to over the weekend and City Buzz has a few ideas for you.

Close/Perspective exhibition at Everard Read Gallery

There will be a solo exhibition of the new works by artist Lionel Smit titled Close/Perspective at the Everard Read Gallery in Rosebank until 30 September. The exhibition will include his latest paintings, sculptures and prints in a fabulous setting. It’s a must-visit for all art fans. Gallery hours are 9am to 6pm on Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

World’s Largest Paint Party

The Life in Color’s World’s Largest Paint Party will hit South Africa for the first time and blow people away with incredible displays of acrobatic skills as well as contortionists, stilt walkers and actors. And of course, the incredible paint spray, on the hour, every hour. It’s similar to the Holi One Colour Festival, but with proper paint instead of powdered paint. Click here for all the details. It’s happening on 5 September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nazrec from 7pm. Tickets range from R399 to R2 000.

Freddie for a Day at Hard Rock Café

Hard Rock Café Johannesburg is going to rock with you as they party up a storm for Freddie Mercury’s birthday on Saturday. Freddie for a Day will celebrate the life of the musical legend by having a stellar Freddie Mercury performance, followed by a stream of hits by Queen and then a lovely performance by local musical duo, Rob & Ali to end off the night. All this while chowing down on the incredible burgers and sipping on delish cocktails. Not too shabby. Border Collie Rescue South Africa’s dog walk

Border Collie Rescue South Africa is hosting a fun-filled fundraising dog walk. Spend a morning soaking up the sun and getting some fresh air by taking on a 1.8km or 2.6km trail walk and then settling down for scones and tea at the dog-friendly Ouma’s Tea Garden. All breeds of dogs are welcome so rope in the whole family!

It’s all happening on 6 September at Smuts House Museum, Irene. Registration takes place from 7am to 9am at a fee of R30 per person and R10 per dog.

Joburg Vinyl Fair

With summer on the way, it’s time to make sure that your music collection is stocked up. No one likes dull tunes at a house party. Visit the Vinyl Fair and grab the hottest records, old and new. The Milk Bar will also be open ensuring that you get a scrumptious breakfast and killer coffee before shopping up a storm.

It’s all happening on 6 September from 10am to 2pm at Katy’s Palace Bar, Kramerville. Please note that the event will take place at the back of the venue at the Sir James van der Merwe Bar. You will need to walk through the Amatuli shop to get to the Vinyl Fair.
