Sandton police arrest 25 in stop-and-search operations

SANDTON - In a bid to make the Sandton area safer for residents, Sandton police conducted several stop-and-search operations from 22 to 24 August and subsequently made many arrests.

More than 25 people were arrested for driving under the influence, shoplifting and drug possession.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, explained that 13 people were arrested for drinking and driving.

“The police were conducting a stop-and-search and roadblock operation in areas such as Kelvin, Bryanston, Buccleuch, Woodmead and Sandown and managed to arrest these motorists,” he said.

Maphakela added that a further seven people were busted for drug possession, while eight more people were arrested for shoplifting in areas such as Parkmore, Bryanston, Buccleuch, Woodmead and Morningside.
