Safety wear provider highlights challenges of occupational diseases

WOODMEAD – Leading solution provider in safet wear, 3M, recently hosted a safety day seminar in an effort to bring the issue of safe breathing and hearing within the occupational industry into the spotlight.

The seminar, hosted at the 3M offices in Woodmead, was hosted by the company’s personal safety division and saw various speakers address health and safety managers in the occupational and industrial hygiene community.

Guest speaker Vijay Nundlall, president of Mine Ventilation South Africa, highlighted some of the latest trends in the safety arena and the need to improve the prevention of respiratory diseases within the industry.

“There is still so much more that industries can do to prevent respiratory diseases and deaths, particularly in the mining sector,” he said.

“One life lost is still one too many, even though there has been tremendous progress [in the industry].”

Another guest speaker at the seminar, Jaco Combrinck, respiratory protection business manager at 3M, gave a presentation which focused on the importance of respiratory protection within the workplace.
