SA’s first NBA fan park
MAGALIESSIG - Montecasino leaves no stone unturned when it comes to gaming and recreation, and in yet another entertainment first, Gauteng’s award-winning gaming and entertainment complex recently hosted the first-ever National Basketball Association (NBA) fan park in South Africa.
This was the first time the NBA had ever played a basketball game in Africa, which took place on 1 August at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg.
The game featured a Team Africa vs Team World format, and was played in support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Africa, SOS Children’s Villages Association of South Africa as well as the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Team Africa comprised players from Africa and second generation African players, whereas Team World comprised players from the rest of the world. The game aired live in Africa on SuperSport, culminating in Team World defeating Team Africa by 101-97.
