Cheers to renewable energy

SANDTON - The African Climate Reality Project and Food & Trees for Africa will host CEO of the South African Wind Association, Johan van den Berg, at their next Road to Paris Green Drinks event.

Van den Berg will be the main speaker at the event on 16 July in Wendywood.

He will speak on the topic of ‘bottom-up solutions to the climate crises: a South African and African perspective’.

Renewable energy is a field that is highly relevant as an alternative energy source in the context of South Africa’s current energy predicament. As a result, renewable energy sources are increasingly attractive to businesses and individuals.

Wind energy is one of the solutions the African Climate Reality is promoting ahead of the global climate meeting, the Conference of Parties 21 (Cop21), to be held in Paris at the end of this year.

Van den Berg has spent 18 years in environmental mediation, climate change avoidance/emissions trading, and has focused on prioritising renewable energy in southern Africa. He is also the chair of the South African Renewable Energy Council and the African Private Sector Focal Point for the Africa-European Union Energy Partnership.

He is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Energy and was awarded the 2015 Global Sustainable Leadership Award by the World Corporate Social Responsibility Congress in Mumbai, India.

At the event, guests will learn more about the exciting renewable energy opportunities, and converse with Van den Berg as well as others who are enforcing the changes that are needed for a low carbon future.
