Road rage in Woodmead

WOODMEAD - Following a post on the eBlockwatch Facebook group regarding a potentially serious road rage incident in Woodmead on 3 July, local authorities have given some tips on how to deal with road rage.

 

The incident occurred in the morning when an eBlockwatch member exiting the Woodmead Centre and turning right into Woodmead Drive, was cut off by a male driver.

She said, “I politely hooted at him to make him aware that there is another car next to him. I stopped and let him go in front of me as he obviously wanted to be in that lane.

“He got highly aggravated and upset that I hooted at him and started swearing at me.” In her attempts to ignore the driver, he approached her car and tried to wrench open her door, but it was locked.

Founder of eBlockwatch, Andre Snyman said, “I think when one finds themselves in that situation, you should be very careful because you do not know how far the other person is willing to go.”

Spokesperson for Metro police, Edna Mamonyane, said commuters must remain calm on the road and if someone expresses anger, then diffuse the situation by apologising.

Mamonyane added that many road rage incidents involve a passenger who aggravates the driver and cautioned drivers not to allow this to blur their judgement.
