Mercedes-Benz security guard killed

BRYANSTON - The staff of the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Bryanston suffered a tragic loss on the morning of 27 June when one of their security guards, Victor Mhlongo was killed by a speeding vehicle on William Nicol Drive.

Head of security at the dealership Bongani Nyoni said Mhlongo took a taxi from his home in Alexandra to work at 5.45am. He added that the taxi stopped in the fast lane on William Nicol Drive at the Peter Place intersection and Mhlongo alighted from the taxi.

He was then side-swiped by a speeding white BMW which knocked him into the intersection before driving over him. Nyoni said the driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Spokesperson for Metro police, Wayne Minnaar said a case of hit and run had been opened and all the information handed to the authorities will be investigated.

Having worked with Mhlongo for one year, Nyoni said he was a good employee. He added, “On my side, as a leader, he was a good person to me and to everyone he worked with.”

The staff at the dealership are currently dealing with the tragic loss. Security supervisor and Mhlongo’s best friend Mncedisi Mphofu said, “I’m very sad about what has happened. He was my best friend, my heart is broken.”
