Show how big your heart is with Barnyard Theatre

RIVONIA – Barnyard Theatre Riviona recently went on a quest to find the most worthy cause for a fundraiser with their Win a Fundraiser competition.

The fundraiser will be held on 11 July with the musical showcase being themed thank you for the music, and will feature hits by the likes of ABBA, the Bee Gees and, of course the ultimate, Queen.

“We realised how many charities and families were in desperate need of help,” said spokesperson for the theatre company, Helen Moulster.

“Knowing that we are able to offer some form of assistance, we brainstormed around the idea and came up with the initiative [competition].”

Moulster added that they were completely overwhelmed and humbled by the response to this competition. “We were deeply moved by some of the reasons people had entered it,” she said.

Tasmin Muller was chosen out of the many entries after her heartfelt plea regarding a close friend, René Anderson, whose father, Basil, was diagnosed with cancer early last year.

Muller calls Basil a ‘fighter of a man’, who is still the breadwinner for his family. “He still goes to work after having chemotherapy,” she said.

“He should not have to worry about his finances while struggling to beat his cancer. My family went through a tough time recently after my grandmother fell ill and spent a lengthy time in hospital.

“I also knew what René was going through with her dad and his diagnosis and chemotherapy. So when I heard about the competition, I thought entering could help somehow.”

Anderson refers to Muller as her ‘angel friend’, seeing as this love and support came so unexpectedly.

“Since February last year, we have done everything we can to support my dad and get him the therapy he urgently needs,” she said.

“Sessions are very expensive and he has to go every two weeks. When Tasmin gave me the news, it was like a prayer was answered.”

Supporters are urged to get their seats booked sooner rather than later because this will definitely be one cause worth opening your heart up to. Doors will open at 12pm and the show will begin at 1pm. Tickets are R180 per person which include a ticket for the raffle.

Please note that for this show, bookings are not done through Computicket.
