Holy cow, there’s a herd on the highway

ALEXANDRA - A herd of cattle marauding Tsutsumani Village in Alexandra has caused chaos for motorists along the N3 freeway.

A herd of cattle marauding Tsutsumani Village in Alexandra caused chaos for motorists along the N3 highway this morning.

Residents in Tsutsumani said the cattle have been marauding the area for the past two weeks and nobody knew where they came from or where they belong.

The cattle kept on criss-crossing the N3 highway in search of greener pastures and motorists are said to have swerved and swayed their vehicles in order to avoid a deadly collusion with the beasts.

“This morning we received a call about a stranded herd of cattle near the N3 highway in the Tsutsumani area of Alexandra,” said a statement from the Sandton SPCA.

Their inspectors were immediately dispatched to investigate and all they could find was chaos as motorists sought to avoid bumping into the herd. Metro police were called to help control the chaos and help the SPCA inspectors drive them to a pound at the Sandton SPCA premises in Marlboro.

“We would like to extend a huge thank you to the JMPD [Metro police] for controlling the traffic while inspectors and Sandton SPCA staff herded the cattle safely to Sandton SPCA,” the statement said.
