Local shines at wine championship

SANDTON - FOLLOWING an impressive performance at the recent Gauteng wine championship competition, Veronica Plaatjies of the Maslow Hotel is slowly making her mark as a top wine taster in the province.

 

The waitron at the acclaimed hotel based in Sandton, recently competed in the Gauteng leg of the South African Wine Tasting Championship and managed to place in the top ten.

Johann Scheepers, general manager at the hotel, expressed pride at Plaatjies’s recent performance and commended her passion for the trade.

“We are immensely proud of Veronica and what she has achieved in the past two years that she has been with us,” he said.

“She has a natural talent for wine tasting and is focused and passionate about enhancing her knowledge and skills.”

Plaatjies, originally from Port Elizabeth, was also acknowledged as the best Gauteng performer for the Mosaic Restaurant Protégé Programme, which mean she’s also in line to receive a bursary for the programme. “She joined the Maslow two years ago and it is during this time that she manages to grab every opportunity afforded to her to hone her skills.”
