It’s all bling bling at vintage fashion affair

SANDTON – On the evening of 25 June, fashion gurus, style bloggers and funky fashionistas gathered at the Stephan Welz & Co. studio in Sandton City for a fabulous Vintage Fashion Affair.

What arrived just in time for payday was a spectacular event in the incredibly chic studio. Racks of designer vintage clothes were on sale along with fabulous old-worldly jewellery that glittered in display cases.

One-of-a-kind vintage-inspired pieces from designers such as Pucci, Celine and Hermès, to name a few, were available for keen shoppers. Tanya Demby, fashion and design consultant for Stephan Welz & Co. said, “Oscar Wilde once said ‘One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art,’ so it seems only fitting that Stephan Welz & Co. recently launched the Vintage Fashion department as we notice a growing trend, internationally, of auction houses linking themselves to the fashion world.”

Also present at the sale was the fashion editor for Marie Claire magazine, Kelly Fung, who enlightened the crowd on her thoughts behind the sudden resurgence of vintage clothing. “I think vintage lovers really appreciate vintage fashion because you find the answer to the problem of looking like everyone else. There is now such a need for unique, individual pieces so that you can express your individuality.”

She went on to explain that she had recently been a part of a research study and the most noteworthy thing that came about was “that buyers are now looking for items that tell a story, that have a history and a value worth buying into”.

Shoppers perused through racks of Fendi, Thierry Mugler, Chanel and Guy Laroche and those who missed out – things sold fast! – will have the chance to bid on a fantastic selection of designer vintage pieces at the Stephan Welz & Co. Fine Arts and Collectables auction.

The auction is taking place from 4 to 5 August at Stephan Welz & Co. on the 4th floor, South Tower, Nelson Mandela Square.
