Another injury at Sandton City

JOBURG - One week after a ceiling collapse at Sandton City caused multiple injuries for one shopper, yet another shopper has been injured at the popular shopping mall. 

Sandton City confirmed on their website that another shopper had been injured in Nelson Mandela Square.

“On the afternoon of June 10, at approximately 14.45, a customer fell at Nelson Mandela Square.

“The customer was immediately transported to hospital and is receiving medical treatment for her injuries,” the statement read.

According to News24  the injured woman hurt her hip.

The daughter of the injured woman said carpets that were placed over cables in the mall may have been to blame for the fall.

“So it’s either the carpet was not taped down or the tape had come undone. She got her foot underneath the carpet and she fell forward,” the woman’s daughter said.

The injured woman reportedly has a fractured hip and may need a hip replacement.

Sandton City said in their statement, “This incident is unrelated to the one that took place on 3 June and is extremely unfortunate. An investigation is underway to gather detail on the cause of this incident. We will continue to engage and monitor the wellbeing of the customer.”
