Resident accuses Sandton officer of sexual harassment

SANDTON - A Sandton resident and Eblockwatch founder Andre Snyman have expressed outrage following a case of alleged sexual harassment experienced by the resident from an on-duty officer on the morning of 10 June at Sandton Police Station.

 

The alleged incident occurred at 10am when the Sandton resident, who wished to remain anonymous, made her way to the Sandton Police Station to report a motor vehicle accident.

While she was filling in the forms at the station’s client service centre, and after asking the resident whether she was married, the officer allegedly made a sexual gesture with his thumb and fingers and asked, “Do you want a bit of this?”

After ignoring him, he allegedly repeated his advance until she left. The distraught resident then contacted Snyman.

Snyman said the woman is badly affected by the incident, and does not know what to do as the officer has access to her personal information.

Snyman added that he will be working closely with the Sandton police to bring the officer to justice by finding out who filled in the form with the resident.

He said, “It’s the bad apples like this who give the good officers a bad name.”

Spokesperson for the Sandton police, Colonel Gonaseelan Govender said the police will be working closely with the resident and will investigate the situation as they do not condone behaviour such us this in any way.
