Birthday treat for CHD Buccleuch boy

BUCCLEUCH - A Buccleuch boy with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) has celebrated another year of life with a special birthday treat.

Seshma Bhoopal, the proud mother of Ayaan (5), said her son’s birthday is always a great milestone, and has always commemorated it in a unique way. This year, Lamborghini Johannesburg in Bryanston organised to take Ayaan for a ride in his favourite car for his birthday on 10 April. “This was the most precious moment to see the thrill and excitement in Ayaan,” said Bhoopal. “I think this will be a highlight for him for a long time.”

Ayaan had just recently survived his fifth open heart surgery which was performed at Sunninghill Hospital. He received his diagnosis after six weeks of his birth which resulted in him not acquiring corrective surgery in time.

“We were so unsure of whether he would be discharged from hospital before his birthday, so the preparations were quickly put together by family and friends, to ensure that his day was filled with only the best and fit for a little hero,” added Bhoopal.

After the visit to Lamborghini Bryanston, Ayaan enjoyed a Ninja Turtle themed birthday party with all his friends and family. “Everyone selflessly made time and effort in preparing and organising the perfect day for Ayaan. He had great fun and was pampered and spoilt as usual,” said Bhoopal.

She also said on the day of his birthday, he was taken to a temple in Buccleuch where his family and loved ones prayed for his well-being. “We then delivered special treats and token gifts made for doctors and nurses that look after Ayaan at Sunninghill Hospital,” she added. “This is done in gratitude of what these special people do for Ayaan, and the extensive care given to him during his most traumatic times.”

Bhoopal said Ayaan turning five this year was the greatest milestone for her family. “Ayaan’s happy and joyful spirit just continues even though he is still recovering post op and on 24 hour oxygen,” she added. “He is getting stronger at home, and looking forward to finally being able to go to school. His birthday is a victorious celebration of his extraordinary life, overcoming challenges and battles miraculously.”
