Stolen dog found in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA - A two-year-old male pitbull, reportedly stolen from Gallo Manor in the last five days, was found in Alexandra.

A tweet by the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC) urging individuals in the local community to help find the stolen dog a loving home until its owner has been found was retweeted numerous times by concerned residents.

Spokesperson for SARAC Charlene Barnfield said, “Jerry Selwane, founder of Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre, together with SAPS, rescued this dog from Alexandra Township. A supporter contacted us as she had heard the ‘owners’ mentioning that they had stolen him from Gallo Manor five days ago, in a conversation. When Jerry went there, they never admitted to stealing the dog, they said a hobo gave them the dog.”

The animal is reportedly in a good condition and is currently at the rescue centre in Zuurbekom while the organization attempts to reconcile him with the owners. Barnfield added that the organization have contacted local vets to check if he was perhaps reported stolen.

She said, “Some supporters have driven around the suburb trying to find his home too. We are very cautious with all dogs we rescue, and more so with pitbulls. We will require positive identification such as vet bills, photos, and will not relinquish him to just anyone.”

Barnfield concluded that if the dog is not claimed within seven days, he will be put up for adoption. The adoption process will follow a strict home inspection and sterilization.

She said, “…[T]here are too many unwanted dogs in the world. Until such time as we find his home, or a new perfect home, he will remain with us.”
