School carnival brings French tradition to life

SANDTON - The Lycée Jules Verne French School hosted a spectacular carnival attended by its pupils, their friends and family.

Sandrine Juillard, a teacher at the school, said the pupils made their own costumes to wear to the carnival. There were also various themes that guided pupils on how to construct their outfits. The themes included the garden, insects and Africa.

Juillard said the primary school pupils as well as the high school pupils were dressed up in fancy costumes.

“Parents have enjoyed our shows and walked with us along the streets following the enthusiastic sounds of the musicians,” explained Juillard. She also said the Brasse Band of Alexandra was present for this festivity.

“At the end, we shared a buffet with everyone and it was a fantastic day,” said Juillard.

The carnival forms part of the French tradition. Juillard also said in France and in the French school society, every year in February French pupils create or choose their costumes and share the festive moments with the neighbourhood.
