Bryanston Sports Club member triumphs in competition

BRYANSTON - Bryanston Sports Club bowlers played some outstanding bowls at the Johannesburg Bowls Association District Singles premier open competition.

Prince Neluonde made the club proud with his golden win against Wanderers’ Bobby Donnelly in the final of the men’s section.

Tony Mazaris, a member of the Bryanston club’s committee said it was an all Proteas affair in the final. “The two were part of the South African Trips side who won gold at the recent Commonwealth Games,” he added. “It was a tightly contested game where the big group of spectators were held on tenterhooks with every bowl played. After being ahead throughout the game, Prince eventually triumphed over Bobby 21 to 17.”

Mazaris said it was the first time Neluonde had won the district singles champion title.

He added that in the semifinals two other Bryanston Sports Club members were beaten. “Ashleigh Parks was narrowly beaten by Protea’s Tracy Lee Botha 21 to 20, after Ashleigh was lying game on two occasions,” said Mazaris. Botha eventually went on to win the woman’s title. In the men’s senior section, Ray Wilson lost his semifinal to Louis Klopper.

“It was a really good day for Bryanston Sports Club with a wonderful representation in the finals, especially with Prince becoming the district champion,” said Mazaris.
