UPDATE: ‘I was absolutely disgusted’ – knife victim

SUNNINGHILL - Following the leaking of a video depicting a drunk man allegedly threatening his neighbour with a knife in the parking lot of a flat complex in Sunninghill on 27 February, the female victim said she was absolutely disgusted by his behaviour.

According to the female complainant, who also filmed the incident, the drunk man had been a problem in the flat complex since he moved in on 6 December last year. The incident began when the man was found fighting with his girlfriend in the parking lot of the complex at 5.30am on 27 February. The victim said she and her partner were on their way to gym and asked the accused to move out of the way as they were blocking their car.

The complainant added that they moved their fight to a nearby stairway eventually causing another neighbour to call a complex security guard to resolve the issue. When the complainant returned home, the drunk man attempted to shake hands with her boyfriend who declined, which was followed by the man saying, “Oh! Is it because I’m black?” and becoming increasingly restless. He then charged at her boyfriend who pushed the drunk man aside causing him to fall into a nearby bush. He then came up to the victims with a 30cm knife and verbally assaulted them which they captured on video.

The video depicts the man with a large knife threatening to kill his neighbour, and cut out his guts. He also reportedly called the complainant a ‘boere’.

The female victim said they contacted police. After being redirected to two other numbers, the police arrived 31 minutes later, which led to the suspect running into his flat to evade arrest. They were then told that they couldn’t arrest him as he was in his home.

According to the complainant, the police told them to open a case of intimidation after the footage had been presented.

She concluded, “I was completely disgusted by what he said and we are currently staying at a friend’s home for safety.”

The accused has been evicted by the body corporate and is expected to move out of the flat complex.
