Encouraging management and service delivery

SANDTON - The Democratic Alliance’s Shadow Minister of Labour, Ian Ollis shared his vision for Sandton residents.

This after the party finalised its constituency allocations for Members of Parliament for the next five years. He has been re-elected to man the Alex-Sandton Constituency. This constituency covers Wards 107, 108, 91 and 109 (in Alexandra) as well as Wards 103 (Sandton, Morningside, Bryanston, Riverclub), 117 (Rosebank and Parkhurst), 90 (Hyde Park and Craighall) and 102 (Randburg to Blairgowrie, Ferndale).

Ollis oversees councillors Vincent Earp, David Potter, Tim Truluck, Sharon Peetz, Andrew Stewart and Andrew Cadman as well as eight party branches and community projects.

“I have a vision for each of the areas in my constituency for the next two years,” he said. “Rosebank, Randburg, Sandton and Alexandra have quite different needs which include service delivery issues, educational and health challenges and so on.”

Ollis said he is particularly interested in the use of parks in Sandton and their need for efficient management, as well as the squatters in Riverclub and on the borders of George Lea. “The Field and Study Centre also needs attention, as well as the chronic need for road maintenance and resurfacing in the area,” he added.

He highlighted the main issues that he believes affect Sandton residents. These include the billing crisis, service delivery, a declining economy, the Eskom energy crisis and the increase of vagrants in the area. “The bylaw enforcement is collapsing,” added Ollis.

He is also concerned that before provisions could be made for minibus taxis and metre taxis to operate in Sandton, the City has gone forward with plans for the BRT system. Ollis foresees great trouble once the BRT system is up and running. “The planning function has failed,” he said. Ollis wants to see Sandton functioning under good management and the good delivery of services.
