No end to pavement nightmare on Eileen Road

BRYANSTON - Residents of Eileen Road are frustrated with the state of the street.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration about the neglect of the pavement opposite Knightsbridge retirement village. The resident added that despite various requests to have the pavement tidied up, no action had been taken by authorities.

“There is also the problem of the huge eucalyptus tree, which could possibly fall over and in the process damage some of our buildings and even worse, pose a threat to human safety and life,” he said.

Ward 106 councillor Stephen Moore confirmed that he was aware of the condition of Eileen Road and explained the reason behind it.

“The Knightsbridge Business Park on the opposite side of Eileen Road does not cut the grass on the sidewalk between its fence and the road, which leaves it looking unkempt,” he said.

To add to the problem, Moore said there was an illegal taxi rank on Grace Road where commuters and drivers littered.

He added that both matters have been reported to City Parks via the department of urban management.

“They have been unable to give me a reason for why they have been unable to address the issue of the tree or the sidewalk.”

Moore said he understood that the situation was a frustrating one as small matters often became bigger ones due to the failure to attend to them.

He also stressed the importance of reporting such issues to the city council, as councillors were then able to escalate such matters once the complaint had been lodged.

“The city administration takes such issues more seriously when they have been reported by residents and failure to fix the issue requires escalation,” he said.
