Down memory lane

HOUGHTON ESTATE - A jaunt down memory lane at the Foxwood Theatre is designed to delight cabaret lovers and South African stage devotees.

Two’s Company…Three’s a Show sees theatre legends Annabel Linder, Michael de Pinna and Keith Smith meet onstage for the first time in the course of three long and illustrious careers, for an intimate, informal and affectionate celebration of musical theatre.

Spotlit against a theatrical New York backdrop, and accompanied by clarinet maestro Sam Sklair, Linder, De Pinna and Smith take a spirited and often tongue-in-cheek meander through the Great American Songbook, from There’s no business like show business, via hits from Chicago and icons like Nina Simone.

Loosely tied together by theme, the script pauses to reflect on the expression of life’s experiences in song, for a moment’s good-humoured audience interaction, or to recollect the decades of collective stage experience represented by its cast, who demonstrate their vocal and theatrical versatility as they assume one persona after another. Linder performs a short tribute comedy piece in the memorably throaty, irreverent tone of Joan Rivers, and dons a spectacular gown for a homage to South African actress Joan Brickhill, while Smith appears in a flat cap to perform Chicago’s poignantly comical Mr Cellophane. De Pinna sports an 80s-inspired jacket for his rendition of I’m Changing from Dreamgirls.

Packed with much-loved hits and delivered with big-band flair, Two’s Company…Three’s a Show provides the intimate setting of Foxwood Theatre with the excitement of Broadway.
