Changing the shape of Ballyclare Drive bridge

BRYANSTON - The reconstruction of Ballyclare Drive bridge in Bryanston has commenced.

Motorists driving over the bridge will notice that the Johannesburg Roads Agency has implemented traffic accommodation signs and humps on the stretch of road. Vusi Sikhakane, the regional operations manager said the traffic accommodation installations are part of the preliminary stages of the project.

“Next week, workers are expected to be onsite,” said Sikhakane. He added that it was discovered that the shape of the Ballyclare Drive bridge was unsafe for motorists.

“We’ll be putting up a safer bridge shape for motorists to drive on,” explained Sikhakane.

He said a new construction company has been appointed to upgrade the storm water drainage system. “That will start soon, in the next financial year, between May and June,” added Sikhakane.

He said in the meantime, until the upgrades of the storm water drainage system commence, workers will be repairing potholes and developing the roads to accommodate motorists in their travels on the bridge.

Sikhakane added that the previous installation of pipes has stopped water going down the bridge. “There is no more water running down the roads, it is now delivered to the spruit,” he explained.

  1. Good day

There is nothing wrong with the shape of the bridge. All that needs to be put in place is traffic calming conditions like the temporary bumps that have been implemented just on a permanent basis.
