Put your best idea forward at festival

SANDTON - The Gordon Institute of Business Science will be hosting a Festival of Ideas on 20 November in Sandton.

Everyone with a great idea that deserves to be heard is invited to enter the Festival of Ideas. Applicants will be shortlisted to attend the panel session to be held at the institute, where cash spot prizes will be up to R20 000.

“Every great invention starts with someone trying to do away with a problem that they see,” said Luleka Mtongana on behalf of the institute. “It is the way our society progresses, to think through problems and develop new solutions that make life easier.”

Mtongana explained that the institute’s Network for Social Entrepreneurs are passionate about finding innovative solutions to progress the society and economy. Through their various platforms, the institute and the network encourages and helps budding entrepreneurs in achieving their goals.

In partnership with South African Breweries Miller Foundation, Standard Bank and LifeCo UnLtd, young entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to step forward and present their social entrepreneurship business ideas in front of a judging panel. Ideas perceived to be great by the panel of judges will be given funding from the R200 000 prize money, to get their idea off the ground.

Hosts on the day will be social entrepreneurs, Zakes Bantwini and 5FM DJ Fix Moeti.

“What makes the Festival of Ideas different is not just that we are looking for innovation, but that the problems that people are trying to solve improves the world around us,” said Kerryn Krige, the programme manager for the network at the institution. “This is not about having an idea so that you can earn lots of money; it is about having an idea that improves our country,” added Krige.
