Global charity shop comes to Sandton

SANDTON - Sandton City and advertising agency McCann Johannesburg introduced a store like no other.

The Empty Shop is a global charity initiative that encourages customers to bring clothes to the shop instead of throwing them away.

The Empty Shop, which will be in the Checkers Court up until 16 November, invites shoppers to donate any item of clothing to the store. The shop will be filled with donated clothes and mannequins beautifully styled with the items donated. Each night the shop will be emptied, leaving The Empty Shop ready to receive new donations again the following day.

The launch of the store opening was attended by various guests, celebrities and the media. Entertainment was provided by DJ Lux and radio presenter Anele Mdoda of 947 was the master of ceremonies for the event.

All items of clothing will be welcome, from simple dresses and casual jeans to designer suits, and babies’ and children’s clothing.

All clothes donated will be given to Sandton City’s selected charity for 2014, HospiceWits, which provides palliative care (the holistic care of someone diagnosed with a life-threatening illness) and support to the communities in Johannesburg and Soweto.
