Havoc at Ebury Park

BRYANSTON - Residents surrounding Ebury Park have expressed concern regarding a vagrant who causes havoc in the park by starting fires and screaming obscenities at dog walkers and joggers.

The vagrant has been living in the park for four months. A local resident confirmed there are three vagrants living in the park and next to the stream. The vagrant in question was humorously nicknamed Prometheus, after the Greek god who brought fire to humanity, and is said to have chopped down the living trees in Ebury Park in order to start fires. The fire brigade was called to put out a fire caused by him on 15 October.

Prometheus has also been reported to have acted violently towards residents using the park, screaming obscenities and threatening them.

Ward 106 councillor Stephen Moore said, “It is obviously very worrying that this scale of destruction is being caused by one individual.”

Moore said he has been working with bylaw enforcement and urban management to prevent further damage to the park. He has also started a multi-disciplinary task team with the police and social services to deal with the vagrant.
