Proteas ready for Cricket World Cup

ILLOVO - The national cricket team is already getting ready for the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, held in February next year.

Some members from the Proteas were at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Illovo on 6 October to celebrate Cricket South Africa’s partnership with Leisure Group, in particular Rolux, who has joined the Cricket South Africa family.

Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock from the Proteas team expressed their desire to win the trophy at the Cricket World Cup next year. “We all want to win the trophy,” said Steyn. “I take pride in the opportunity to represent my country and I enjoy the challenge of being able to play away from home.”

The team will be participating in the Twenty20 (T20) Internationals against Australia in November. “This will be a good preparation for the Cricket World Cup,” said Aaron Phangiso, a member of the Proteas.

De Kock added, “I’m slowly growing into the team and taking it all in.” He was talking about the squad’s new-look for the T20 Internationals against Australia in which JP Duminy has been named captain of the Proteas T20 side for the series against New Zealand and Australia. Also, Vernon Philander was recalled to the One Day International (ODI) squad in place of Mthokozisi Shezi.

Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw and Kagiso Rabada were announced the three new captains in the T20 squad for the three-match series in Australia.

“We all had to find a way to work together,” added Steyn. “We’ve worked hard to build a really good culture with the Proteas. We’ve worked tremendously hard to get here and we are only going from strength to strength.”
