New, green deliveries provide employment

SANDTON - Dash couriers is a specialised bicycle messenger service headed up by David Shmukler that is putting an eco-friendly spin on green deliveries.

Shmukler said that the bicycle courier business model follows the services offered in other cities such as New York and London. He said, “In those cities, no one can get around as quickly as a bike messenger and with Sandton becoming a central business district there is a lot of traffic and congestion.”

Shmukler added that tasks such as going to the bank becomes a great hassle for people working in Sandton and takes times away from their working hours. He added, “How the service works is that you pick up the phone and tell us what needs to be picked up and delivered and we will get it for you in two hours.”

The cyclists were recruited by Shmukler from academies in Diepsloot and Soweto. With an expanding business model the cyclists are working hard to help the business grow.

Cyclist Lebogang Modise said, “We’re really happy with the business and just want to work hard to help it grow.”

Shmukler has been working with the local council to install bicycle lanes for his riders and hopes to spread the Dash couriers brand across the country.

The area that the bicycle couriers cover extends from Hyde Park to Randburg and promises a two-hour delivery time and a specialised tracking system that will allow clients to know the status of their delivery. Shmukler said, “The business focuses on affordability with a fee of R170 and immediacy with dedicated cyclists who will deliver efficiently.”
