SAP assists the public sector

SANDTON - Technology company SAP held a Public Sector and Utilities Innovation Day at the FNB conference centre to show representatives from the public sector how technology can help the community.

The event involved lectures on the new innovations that can assist in business management and community initiatives involving education and service delivery.

The company’s senior account manager, Nicole Spruijt said the company along with its partners, demonstrated how local government could effectively leverage technology in metros and municipalities to ensure the demands of service delivery and rapid urbanisation were met in the public sector.

An area in the public sector which the company would like to assist was education. The company’s vice president of public services, Michael Pittelkow said that their initiatives would attempt to move away from the ‘one size fits all’ approach of teaching, and introduce technologies that could help in creating a form of learning that focuses on individual children.

The company’s general manager of public services, Danny van Heck added that their initiatives were also based on the economic value of education and healthcare. He said in these sectors, the community’s of the future were not only focused on having the capacity to move the public sector forward, but also have the knowledge that will help individuals in this sector to deal with future challenges. He added, “This all ties in with the labour market, and giving people the necessary skills to meet the demand and supply in the public sector.”
