Climate change peace laureate coming to Wits

JOBURG - Co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007, Prof. Camille Parmesan is ready to dazzle.

Parmesan will be speaking at the Wits Rural Facility on 23 September during a visit hosted by the Global Change and Sustainability Research Institute at Wits University.

The title of her talk is Conservation in a time of rapid climate change.

Parmesan is renowned for her studies on the impact of climate change on wildlife, and was the first to demonstrate that species are shifting their natural ranges in response to changes in temperature. Her recent ideas on assisted migration, which involves helping species to survive climate change by moving their location, resulted in Atlantic magazine naming her as one of the 27 Brave Thinkers of Our Time, alongside the likes of Barack Obama and Steve Jobs.
