‘Rolex gang’ bail causes outrage

SANDTON - The Sandton Community Policing Forum chairperson has expressed outrage following reports of the ‘Rolex gang’ getting bail.

The four men, dubbed the ‘Rolex gang’, have been allegedly linked to a string of crimes that took place in the Sandton area.

According to the chairperson, Wendy Vorster-Robertson, the forum was disappointed with the granting of bail as it did little to allay the fears of community members.

“It is simply wrong that these men were granted bail after all they had done in the local community, and as law-abiding citizens we must take a stand against such matters,” she said.

She added, although she could not predict future events, she was fearful that residents could be subjected to more driveway robberies due to the gang being granted bail.

The ‘Rolex gang’ has been accused of a string of crimes, involving expensive jewellery, in the Johannesburg north suburbs.

Lieutenant-Colonel Khensani Mogoai, Provincial police communications officer, confirmed that a case against the four men had been taken to court.

“I can confirm that four men were arrested and face charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm,” she said.

The four will appear on 29 October at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court. More details will follow.
