Magician against bullying

BRYANSTON - Resident, Colin Underwood, has been a magician for over 30 years and has performed at corporate events and toured with the Boswell Wilkie Circus.

He now runs an anti-bullying show at various primary schools while dazzling pupils with magic.

Underwood began his journey into the world of magic after his parents bought a toy magic set for him as a child. He developed his skills and began performing while in the army in 1978. He said, “When I was in the army I shared a tent with a circus man. I could juggle a little bit so we started a juggling act and we toured around the country entertaining the troops.

“Around 1981, I joined the Boswell Wilkie Circus – my first professional job which I got through the guy I worked with in the army.”

Underwood then went on to build up 30 years of experience as an entertainer. Among many others, he has performed at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, and for Prince Edward in England.

He said that after all his wonderful experiences, he felt that he needed to give back to the community and began an anti-bullying show called Say NO.

“At first it was a business venture but then I saw an insert on the news about a child who had committed suicide and I thought that it would be good to teach children the dangers of bullying,” said Underwood.
