Robberies hit Morningside, Buccleuch

SANDTON - Two houses in the Sandton area were broken into in August.

In one of the incidents, suspects made off with a vehicle after ransacking a house in Morningside.

According to Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson of the Sandton police, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning.

“Both the complainant and his wife were in the house sleeping when three males woke him up and ordered him to remain quiet,” she said.

Cloete said the suspects were armed with two firearms and a panga, and woke up the complainant’s wife before tying both of them up.

She added that the thieves made off with valuables from the house before fleeing in the complainant’s Toyota Prada. The police are still investigating.

Meanwhile, another house in Buccleuch was robbed of valuables by four men in the early afternoon.

“The armed men forced their way into the home and pointed their firearms at the complainant, a domestic worker, before forcing her to lie down and cover her face,” Cloete explained.

Cloete added that the suspects made off with electrical appliances and it was unclear how they fled the scene, since the complainant alleged that she did not see a vehicle.

Investigations remain underway.
