Theatre puppet horse visits Rehill School

SANDTON - The theatre show, War Horse, paid Redhill School pupils a visit.

Nirvana Rogers on behalf of Redhill School said, “Pupils from Kindergarten 1 to Grade 8 were enthralled as a magnificent puppet horse came to life.”

She said one of the Grade 5 pupils, Catherine van der Merwe, was chosen as one of the pupils to ride on the star of the show, Joey the horse.

The stage production, which is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, is a drama filled with music and artistry.

In the show, South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company brings breathing, galloping, full scale horses to life. “It is a proud moment when an internationally acclaimed, smash-hit production gets to visit our shores and inspires our youth [by] the talent that originated in our homeland,” added Rogers.

The global theatre phenomenon, will be making its South African première later this year, beginning with a season at The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg in October before transferring to the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town in December.
