Bogus cops bust in Sandton appear in court

SANDTON - Two fake police officers were arrested in Sandton.

This according to a report on the Road Safety Blog on 7 August.

The report stated that in November 2013, the National Investigation Unit arrested a South African National Defence Force member, Tshepo Ledwaba and his accomplice, an Air Force member, Lucas Mabeko, for an attempted hijacking incident in Sandton.

They appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 8 August where their case was postponed to 11 August.

On Twitter @SAPoliceService confirmed the court date and that the two were denied bail in June this year.

They were both charged with attempted hijacking, possession of an unlicensed firearm and impersonating police officers when they were taken into custody.

Ledwaba was allegedly caught wearing a SAPS reflector jacket and a SAPS baseball cap. It was alleged that Mabeko was wearing a Metro police reflector jacket and a Metro police baseball cap.

The report also claimed that Ledwaba and Mabeko had flashing blue police lights on the BMW they were driving during the attempted hijacking.
