Hijackers abandon Mercedes after crashing it into pavement

SANDTON - Police blue lights and a Metro police uniform were found inside an abandoned stolen vehicle in Sandown on 17 July at 4am.

The white Mercedes Benz, which had been been hijacked on 14 July, crashed onto a pavement at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Wierda Road East.

The Bramley Intervention Unit from the Bramley police said the vehicle was abandoned by the two suspects thought to be a man and woman. A bag with clothes belonging to a woman was recovered inside the boot.

The car had been hijacked in the Free State, and had a fake licence disc and fake number plate.

Police said the uniform found was that of the Ekurhuleni Metro police.

One of the officers on the scene said it looked like the suspects had left in a hurry. It is not certain how the vehicle landed on the pavement.
