Alexander Forbes building declared safe after bomb threat

SANDTON - The Alexander Forbes building in Sandton has been evacuated due to a bomb threat.

Employees at Sandton-based companies, Alexander Forbes, and Ernst and Young, were left shaken after being evacuated from their respective buildings due to a bomb scare.

Confused employees said they were informed of the presence of a potential bomb and were told to evacuate immediately while police searched both buildings.

Lynn Stevens, spokesperson of Alexander Forbes, explained that their building was cleared and employees evacuated after receiving a call informing them of the threat.

“We received a call this morning informing us of the risk to our employees and we immediately evacuated everyone for their own safety,” she said.

The Sandton police were immediately alerted. Kym Cloete, spokesperson of the Sandton police, said police conducted a search of both buildings for any explosives that may be present in both buildings. She confirmed that the building had been cleared of any potential danger and that the building could once again be utilised.

Employees were eventually allowed back into the buildings after the search was completed.

Currently, hundreds of employees are standing in a cordoned off section of West Road.

Alexander Forbe confirmed the incident on Twitter. @alexforbes tweeted @Sandton_News The roads are closed due to a possible bomb threat at our 115 West Street building.

Lynn Stevens, Spokesperson for Alexander Forbes said, “Alexander Forbes has evacuated its headquarters to investigate a potential threat. Entry back into the building will only be allowed upon confirmation that it is safe to do so. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

This after speculation that a protest was in action.
