Bryanston power outages must be logged

BRYANSTON - Bryanston residents are experiencing frequent power outages.

Resident Jenni Munslow who resides in Queen Anne Road, experienced one of many power outages on 18 May.

She logged a fault on City Power’s website at 7am and tried to get through to the call centre most of the morning. “I managed to get through after holding for 45 minutes, only to be told they have no idea when the power will be restored,” she said.

“This is the seventh outage in six weeks, with the shortest period without power being six hours and the longest nearly 24 hours.”

Munslow said the service from City Power was “appalling, with no feedback available at all”.

“We pay a lot in rates and taxes for electricity. I certainly expect far better than this,” she said.

Councillor for Ward 102, David Potter, has asked Bryanston residents to log all their power outages to City Power. “Over the last few weeks your property may have been plagued with power outages lasting many hours,” he said. “These outages were not as a result of load shedding, but rather as a result of infrastructure breakdowns at the Bryanston substation and surrounds.”

Potter told residents that Twitter had proven useful when there were large outages and councillors would be able to help with queries if they were contacted.

“Power outages should be resolved within four hours, however as we all know, City Power seldom attends to a power outage within that time,” said Potter.

Councillors Stephen Moore and Mike Wood have requested that City Power provide them with a full report detailing the remedying of the situation
