The Johannesburg Road Agency urges locals to report damaged kerbsides and missing stormwater drain covers

Replacement of stormwater drain covers form part of JRA’s reactive maintenance.

Rosebank locals are urged to be the ears and eyes of ward councillors and utilities such as the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) in reporting any road-related defects.

A resident reported a collapsed and broken stormwater drain along Jan Smuts and Waterfall avenues in Craighall on June 23.

JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the regional maintenance team conducted a visual inspection of the site and surrounding routes and would make the required repairs.

“The stormwater drainage pipes will be replaced over the coming week, and the sidewalk will be reinstated as soon as Johannesburg Water can confirm that there are no leakages from their pipes. Replacement of stormwater drain covers forms part of JRA’s reactive maintenance and are repaired as and when they are damaged.”

Peters-Scheepers added that damage to the kerbsides could be caused by various factors such as reckless driving when heavy-duty vehicles drive over them, and the misuse of the drains when solid waste is deposited into them. Drain covers were removed when this occurred. Items such as cement blocks, mattresses and buckets were among the common items found in these drains.

Locals are encouraged to log a service request for potholes, faulty traffic signals, trenches and other JRA-related services on the following channels:
