Redhill learners to fly the school flag high at the Prestigious Bulgarian International Mathematics competition

Redhill School, an international school based in Morningside and known for its commitment to academic excellence, has yet again proven how good it is.

Redhill School is thrilled to announce that six of its middle school learners have been chosen to represent South Africa at the esteemed Bulgarian International Mathematics Competition.

Following a rigorous selection process comprising four intense rounds of trials, these exceptional learners earned the opportunity to showcase their mathematical prowess on a global stage.

From June 27 to July 1, Leqian Li, Eason Ning, Qiyuan Alex Sun, Ayan Fernando, Qihang Zhang, and Jashil Sahdeo, will compete against participants from around the world in the prestigious online competition.

Redhill School extends its warmest congratulations to these remarkable individuals for their outstanding accomplishments.

Although unable to participate due to prior commitments, Redhill School acknowledges the impressive achievements of Jessica Hilburn, Njabulo Luthuli, and Matthew Stott, who were also selected for this prestigious event.

Shelli Nurcombe-Thorne, the marketing and communications manager, said,” Their dedication and commitment to mathematics are commendable, and Redhill School is incredibly proud of their accomplishments.”

As an additional cause for celebration, Jacolene Venter, a highly innovative and dedicated Redhill Maths Department member, has been appointed team leader for the Bulgarian International Mathematics Competition. Her expertise, guidance, and invigilation will provide invaluable support to the team as they navigate the challenges of the competition.

Nurcombe-Thorne added that the remarkable achievement further solidifies Redhill School’s reputation as one of the top math schools in the country.

“The school has witnessed immense growth and progress among its students through its innovative numeracy programme and collaborative efforts within the Redhill Maths Department.”

Commenting on this achievement, the Executive Head of Redhill School, Joseph Gerassi, emphasised the importance of fostering a love of learning and alleviating the fear of failure, particularly during the formative years of building strong mathematics foundations.
