Theft of a motor vehicle and house robberies are on the rise in the Sandton suburbs

Woodmead and Parkmore are regarded as hotspots for theft out of motor vehicles and house robberies as stated by Sandton police

According to police spokesperson Captain Bheki Xulu, Sandton’s past month’s crime report indicated that theft out of motor vehicles and house robberies are on the rise.

“Most of the incidents took place at fuel stations where laptops, mobile phones, and other items are visible to the public and taken from the vehicles. With these incidents, the use of jamming devices is suspected because there is no force of entry.”

In Woodlands and Parkmore in the past month, crime reports indicated that more theft out of motor vehicles incidents were reported, compared to previous months.

“These crimes mostly happened in the morning when people are going to work and stop at fuel station shops to grab something to eat. We request motorists to lock their vehicles and physically check if the vehicle is properly locked.

“The suspects are dangerous because they are armed and most of the cases reported mention three to four males. They want flat screen televisions, laptops, jewellery, mobile phones, money, and other items which are easy to carry.”

Xulu also warned the public to use one route to enter their houses and always be vigilant about suspicious vehicles around parking areas.

Safety tips:

  • Be alert of the surroundings when driving in or out of the house.
  • Regularly test the alarm system in the house if it is working properly.
  • Fingerprint and get full particulars of the helper and gardener in the house.
  • Close all windows, lock your doors and activate the alarm at all times.

The station commander of Sandton SAPS requests the community to work with police and other law enforcement agencies to discourage criminal activities in the Sandton policing precinct by reporting to CRIMESTOP 08600 10111 or Sandton SAPS 011 722 4200.
