43-year-old Zimbabwean fugitive arrested in Sandton hotel

The businessman is wanted by the Zimbabwean authorities for kidnapping, robbery and three counts of contempt of court.

The South African Police Service’s Intervention Unit in collaboration with Interpol South Africa has arrested a 43-year-old businessman that was hiding in a hotel on November 10.

According to a statement released by the national spokesperson for the South Africa Police Service Colonel Athlenda Mathe, the man known as Frank Buyanga Sadiqi is said to be wanted by the Zimbabwean authorities for kidnapping, robbery and three counts of contempt of court.

“The charges emanate from an incident which took place in April 2020 in Zimbabwe where the suspect kidnapped his next of kin and fled with him to South Africa. A warrant of arrest was immediately issued by Zimbabwean authorities after which a red notice was also issued by Interpol Harare,” he said.

Colonel Mathe said Sadiqi has already appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

“His case has been remanded to November 17 for a formal bail application, “concluded Colonel Mathe.
