JRA intervenes as law enforcement fails to curb reckless driving in Bryanston

Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer encourages motorists to reduce speeding and take note of traffic changes in Bryanston.

Following various speeding-related incidents on and around Cumberland Avenue in Bryanston, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has intervened.

According to Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer, while this was a residential area and a residential road, motorists did not abide by the 60km/h speed limit, forcing other measures to be put in place.

The intersection of Moray Drive and Logan Avenue has been converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop.

“It has really become an issue, forcing JRA to implement clever engineering where law enforcement and good driving have failed. Teams from the JRA have installed rumble strips across both lanes of Cumberland Avenue and this will force motorists to reduce their speed, additional warning signs have also been installed.”

Residents are encouraged to be aware of the rumble strips and abide by the 60km/h speed limit in residential areas.

Motorists are also advised to take note that the intersection of Moray Drive and Logan Avenue has now been converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop.

“After fighting [for] many years to have measures in place to protect our residents on our roads, some great things are happening.”
