Banyana Banyana celebrate with fans at Sasol Place
South African Football Association (SAFA), Dr Danny Jordaan, hopes that as time progresses Banyana Banyana will be Africa's number one during a celebration ceremony at Sasol Place in Sandton.
The nation is still celebrating its biggest victory of the year, Banyana Banyana winning the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
To honour the team’s amazing feat, the team’s leading sponsor, Sasol organised a celebratory event at its headquarters in Sandton on August 25.
The celebration kicked off with the mighty SA super fans leading a march with chants before the team and guests took their seats. In attendance was the president of the South African Football Association Dr Danny Jordaan who congratulated the team on stage with the help of SA super fans leader Mama Joy Chauke.
“We as the South African Football Association would like to discuss with our government to try to assist us by having South Africa host the 2027 Women’s World Cup,” said Jordaan.
Executive vice president of Sasol’s human resources and stakeholder relations Charlotte Mokoena said, “I want to acknowledge every single person who contributed to the victory of Banyana Banyana. We have prepared a special gift for the team.”
Mokoena and a few Sasol representatives awarded the team with goodie bags and a cheque of R5.5 million as a bonus for winning the competition.
“We are all proud of the team. For Banyana Banyana to win this hopefully means that more companies will be on board to support them with sponsorships such as the likes of Bafana Bafana. Another thing is that we need more people to take women’s football seriously and close the gender inequality gap in the sport,” said a supporter of Banyana Banyana, Kamogelo Peta.
