Bryanston Sports Club backs their Prince

Bryanston Sports Club cheers on long-time member Prince Neluonde as he represents South Africa at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in bowls.

Bryanston Sport Club member and barman Prince Neluonde hoists the flag high as he represents South Africa at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in bowls.

The prestigious tournament, taking place from July 28 to August 8, is a multi-sport event among athletes in the Commonwealth of Nations.

Neluonde started his journey with bowls 15 years ago when, at the age of 23, Bryanston Sports Club employed him to assist his father, Benneth, who was the club’s greenkeeper at the time.

He began playing bowls during his off time and soon became a member of the club’s first team.

Since then, he has gone on to lead the Johannesburg Bowls Association, represented South Africa numerous international competitions, including two Commonwealth Games.

Neluonde won a gold medal as a member of Team South Africa at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games.

“I had an ambition of doing well but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be selected to represent my country and have the opportunity to visit so many parts of the world,” said Neluonde.

On behalf of all the club members, Bryanston Sports Club bowls section president Sipho Velempini wished the talented player well as the games progressed.

“Prince is a role model to young people from all societies. His achievements and amazing successes are an inspiration and proof that bowls offers more opportunities for personal growth than most other sports.”
