First team netball girls of Montrose Primary School go toe to toe with teachers
Montrose Primary School put their learners through the ultimate netball challenge.
Teachers and learners of Montrose Primary School dedicated an entire day to sports during their annual inter-house challenge.
The Parkmore-based school encouraged all of their learners to participate in the challenge that focused mainly on soccer and netball on June 23.
Ronel Sauer, head of netball, was more than excited to finally have her players participate in the challenge after a two-year pause due to the pandemic. “We have been waiting for this moment for so long – to get the kids out again and to get them to enjoy moments at school. Even if the weather is not working with us, we are only focusing on the return of the highly celebrated challenge,” said Saucer.
“We have four different houses competing against one another and, towards the end, the first-team players will compete against the teachers and members of the school.”
The four houses (teams) were Armstrong, Hillary, Livingstone and Scott and the entire school was screaming and cheering for their team of choice during the main events.
The mighty girls of Montrose netball started off a bit rocky in the first half but they did not allow the teachers to lead with more than two goals. The second half was very promising for the first team: more goalscoring chances were created, defense structure was strong and the confidence of each player was set on high.
Even though it seemed that 2022 would be the year of the first-team netball players, the teachers were always a step ahead and won with a one-goal difference in the end (12–11). No injuries or tears were seen on the court as the teachers went to give their learners hugs and high five’s.
According to the head of boys sports, Mokhosi Makara, the house with overall wins would be announced once the learners return from their school break.
