Local golfer on fire at Firethorn

Country Club Johannesburg’ Adam Breen recently nabbed a ‘surprising’ win at the Altron Big Easy Tour at Randpark Golf Club.

Country Club of Johannesburg’s Adam Breen recently took home the win in the Altron Big Easy Tour played on the Firethorn course at Randpark Golf Club.

The Big Easy Tour, founded in 2011 with support from Ernie Els, is a developmental tour of the Sunshine Tour.

Breen recorded an even-par final round to come from behind and secure his first place win with a score of 214.

According to the 24-year-old, the win was both a relief and a surprise considering the fact that he was three shots off the pace set by Ricky Hendler and Nicholaus Frade when the final round got underway.

“I haven’t won much in my career, the last proper win I had was probably when I was a junior. This is definitely number one, I’ve won a bunch of club championships but this is next level.”

He added that this win was a validation of the work that he and his team have committed behind the scenes, boosting his confidence as a competitor.

Breen joins amateurs Christiaan Maas, DK Kim and Gregory McKay on the list of Altron Big Easy Tour winners for this season.
