Sandton police officials take one step with fight against crime

Through the daily station crime combatting meetings, Sandton Police Station officials, ensure to tackle crime with analysis.

Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley has never been the quiet individual in the room when discussing ways to curb off crime and to protect the lives of residents and visitors of Sandton.

Moodley was shared some of the strategies in which the police officials implement when ensuring the safety of the community.

Even with the change of season, criminals are still a major threat throughout the country especially in locations where a lot of business deals are made.

When asked about the current crime trends in the area of Sandton, the Station Commander responded, “people want to do business in Sandton. Unfortunately, that’s where criminals take advantage. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. We have seen a lot of online shopping scams where the buyer ends up with nothing. With regards to the current crime trend, we are still seeing a lot of fraud cases that include online sales, house robberies, motor vehicle theft and snatch and grab activities.”

With no signs of opportunists slowing down, Sandton police officials make sure to always be a step ahead of criminals. They ensure this by attending their weekly meetings based on crime statics and area observations.

“We have a crime intelligence section, where the members of the department do crime analysis. They communicate with me which specific crimes are increasing, where, what time and on which days. The information is then shared in what we call a station crime combatting meeting which happens every day. Commanders and members of the social crime prevention unit are given the directions of criminal activities.

According to the Sandton Station Commander, the counter attacker of having their daily station crime combatting meetings has been showing positive results in a reduction of certain crimes such as hijackings and, snatch and grabs. Moodley is certain that with the assist of the communities as their eyes and ears, criminals will cease to take advantage of more victims in Sandton.
